A WILL THAT DEFIED DEATH... TWICE
A PHOENIX Rises From the Ashes LOS ANGELES, CA (July 2008)
Opera singer Jason Black boldly declares, “I should have died…twice, so I know there is something amazing that I am called to do!” Anyone having seen the ruins of his GEO Storm or the deep laceration from his near decapitation, in addition to hearing the hopeless prognoses from the physicians and specialists that treated him, would assuredly agree... Jason Black is a walking miracle. It was March 14, 1999, when Jason Black smashed into a motionless, unlit car, wrecked from speeding, in the fast lane, to avoid colliding into nearby pedestrians. Rescuers were shocked to discover Jason still alive. It took the Jaws-of-Life to pry Jason out of the wreckage to be rushed to emergency.
To the amazement of physicians and family alike, within a few short weeks of being taught to speak, walk, dress, and recognize his family, friends and surroundings, Jason was recovering at miraculous rates, making it only fit to release him. After a full recovery, the lead tenor and soprano finished college, married and began singing and performing full-time for professional opera companies both in the states and abroad. All was well and life was good for the young couple until fate would have it that they’d face the threat of death once again.
While moving into their newly purchased home in 2001, a large piece of glass crashed down like a guillotine into Jason’s neck. Jason was said to have lost more blood than he retained. After looking at the damage to his voice box, both jugular veins, his nicked spine, the severed nerves, the paralyzation of his diaphragm, arm and most importantly his vocal cord, Jason was left only with the ability to whistle. “Music, in Jason’s mind, is what made life worth living,” said Tausha.
“He just could not settle with the thought of never singing again and then about six months later, he opened his mouth and said… ‘Hello.’ ” “We were shocked!” “To our surprise we heard his voice.” Within two weeks he was miraculously singing again.
Jason and Tausha unequivocally say it was faith and love that got them through and they are committed to using their story and talents to touch lives and give audiences inspiration and hope. In the latest chapter of their success story, Jason has just released PHOENIX, a CD showing off some of his varied facets and styles of music to inspire the listeners to Hope and Abundance.
